R.O.W......

In extension we have been working on a project that is in R.O.W. This stands for Rock Our World. It is a world wide project, which involves heaps of countries in the world. They have themes and the theme for this round is food!!!!! {I love my food with a nice cold icy drink too} In my other post, you can read more about what we did.

They also have a format called garageband. You make a music track on this and then send it to the schools who are participating in Rock Our World. Every school in Rock Our World, gets a schedule to add on their computerized instruments. Point England School was on drums for that week. All of us in extension made a track and Moses got the most votes. His track got sent to the next country. Nice work Moses.

On Flickr we made Mihi's to introduce ourselves to Rock Our World. We used pixelmator or hyperstudio 5 to draw our graphics. After we finished drawing we put it into a programme called comic life. This puts our pictures into frames and joins them together to make a really cool page where we can also add notes to it once it is on Flickr. If you want to know what one looks like, you can copy this address. http://www.flickr.com/photos/extpes/3384043466/

The healthy and unhealthy food pyramid

"That looks yummy" I said.
In extension we were learning about food and the food pyramid . We got to find out what were our favourite meals and our favourite deserts. We were with partners for this activity. My partner and I liked different meals and deserts. I could not chose my meal so I wrote nothing  down and for my desert I wrote down any ice cream and pudding!
Then we got the picture and printed the food pyramid. I found out that most people like fatty and sugary food.

My Holidays

"Hey Leoden, we're going now!" my Dad said. In the holiday's, we went to Cambridge. Its near Hamilton. My family and I travelled there by car. It took about one hour or so. We went there so that my brother Latham could compete in a sport called Waka Ama. This took place at Lake Karapiro. It was on Maori TV.

Man, there was heaps of food there and the food was nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily there were ice blocks there too because I really felt like an ice cube melting in a oven watching my brother and his team paddle.

My brother's team challenged heaps of opponents and they just made it into the finals. I was jumping up and down like I had a sugar rush because it was so close. They were leading all the way and then ran out of puff. They came 8th in whole of NZ. Thats better than nothing.

My team (The Celtics) won our basketball game final!

thanks to www.celticsgreen.proboards18.com, www.nancarrow-webdesk.com and www.nba.com for the photos

As I walked in, I didnt know that we were playing finals. Really noone in our team knew, not even our parents. I saw the other team (Parnell conquers) outside getting pumped up like rockets by their coach. They all looked like year 6s but i thought we could still win but probably it would be a close game. The hooter rang and I felt like Kobe Brayent (in the lakers instead of the celtics) storming onto the court. My team warmed up and we were ready to roll. In the first 10mins, we were point for point. I could hear the parents screaming like loud speakers. At half time we were up by 6points. Our coach (a guy called Steve) told us that we had to play hard on defense and we will win this game on defense! Guess what ...........WE WON just like Steve said. We tharshed them 34-18 HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we were named after celtics thanks to them for the name

Joshua Klein. Have you heard about him ? If you have heard about him he must be smart, really smart. He researched crows for ten years. It must of been long very long!

Joshua got this idea from when he was with his friends at a cocktail party. His friend told him about the crows, his friend wanted to kill them. Joshua said "Couldn't we train them for something useful". His friend said that it was impossible.

Joshua made a vending machine for crows. It had four stages. First it was surrounded by coins and nuts. The crows just kept on coming until he would then change into the next stage. The next step was that a coin would pop out then the crows would hit it and they would get a nut.The last and final step was that when a crow would come and nothing would happen. The crows would get a smart idea from step 1 to get the coins and then get the nut.

SUIPI, an old persons game?

If you are Samoan, you probably would know this card game. You need a deck of cards that go up to 13 and at least 2 players. There are 23 points in a game.A joker is a 13. 12 points or more will win you the game and this is how you play.
thanks for www.istockphoto.com for the photo

1. Shuffle the deck of cards
2. Put 4 cards flipped up and deal 10 cards to yourself and your opponent
3. The person not dealing goes first. You can pick up a matching card (one on the table and one in your hand) or you can put another numbered card on top of a another numbered card to add up to a card you have in your hand. Example if there is a 4 on the table and you are holding a 9 and a 13, you can put your 9 on top of the 4 to make 13.
4. The dealer gets his turn and he can do the same. Pick up a matching card or pick up the 13 the other person made if he has a 13 or make his own one.
5. When all your 10 cards are finished, the dealer repeats dealing the 10 cards till the pack is finished.
6. Now here is how you get points.

3points = most cards, you need more than 32 cards
1point = most spades, you need more than 8
1point for each ace
1point for 2 of spades only
5points for the 13 of diamonds only
4points foe the 12 of diamonds only
3points for the 11 of diamonds only
2points for the 10 of diamonds only

To get a suipi, you have to pick up the last card or cards in the round before the next deal. This is worth 1 point each and its also the name of the game. These points are extra. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game WINS!

Old persons game, I think not. If you get good at it. I'm up for the challenge. Bring it on!

Hint: To be a good player, you have to have good addition and memory skills
